This work aims to explore the relation between photography and symbolism. It was a long debate between theorist that a single image could has a narrative quality or only just a serial can have such attribute. It had been found that every photograph is a kind of symbol because its semiotics indexicality can be extended by personal connotations. It means that a photo from my family not only have indexical references to my relatives but generally could be understood as a symbol of the family too. If a picture can be read as symbol it automatically entails narrative as the photograph meaning goes beyond the captured objects.
The nature of the symbol is associative as trigger different memories in every one by their own life history. Symbol always allude to something real, therefore the human mind replaces the fantastic attribute of the image with reality. It is not fantasy anymore but a kind of depiction of the inner or social world an absurd way.
In my present photography project I play with well know symbols like fish and egg but I also create new symbols by composition such as the stone or the child on the plate. It widely known that the fish represents the world and the egg embody the fertility ( testicle embryo, birth). For instance the bitten eggs is the symbol of the self-destruction because without embryo no future generation, but what kind of destructive event will come into mind of the viewer will depend on their personal experiences and understanding. The baby on the plate express the same barrenness but implies conscious violence.
These images just the beginning of a further researcher work that will be used to create interactive photo games that could be useful for therapy purposes.
